Large Bump On My Dog's Tail

with a difference A msterdam .... here is the time in 1480 stopped ♥ ♥ ♥

The Begijnenhof in Amsterdam

heart of bustling Amsterdam is a place of rest, Begijnenhof

The Begijnenhof was originally a Sactury for Begijnes , a kind of Catholic sisterhood built. The ladies from all walks coming, lived according to fixed, order-like rules, but could leave the community at any time (to get married also). They committed themselves to always do good, and so their main activity was in nursing, teaching children and prayer. They wore a distinctive mark in a kind of dress. The term was first Begijnen 1307 documented in Amsterdam.

The complex is an enclosed courtyard dating from the early 14 . Century. Through this door one enters the Begijnenhof today. The gate opens at 9 pm and closed at 17 ° °.
The "monastery" housed young single women and widows of all ages. The nuns as opposed to getting ready for some time to do so stated in chastity and to live sober. There, however, also spent their whole lives and were buried to some extent.

When you enter the courtyard you can see the first of these houses.

The houses around the yard, always directed to the front of the garden - that is, the city turned back to stand in a circle around the square. Most have a tiny little garden in front of their door. There are a total of 47 beautiful old houses.

The oldest house in the plant, the Black House is . It is thus the oldest wooden house in Amsterdam. Almost 52% of the houses in Amsterdam had to 1544 wooden facades. Only two of the medieval wooden houses still exist. Many fell victim to fires. The Black House was built in 1425 .

Back there in the corner you can see it. It is quite difficult to make better pictures, as the system is very small, in the 47 buildings still live about 100 elderly single women, but also students.

de zwarte huis

Unfortunately there is sometimes so crowded that I would have had to lie down to de Engelse Kerk - English church from the 15 . Century, which dominates the southern edge of the Begijnenhof, complete to get the picture. - I could stay but then it was, because it was raining in torrents.! So the church was summarily beheaded. After all wanted the lawns, or gardens, I do not enter. A little respect for property of others you must actually have.

Even today, religious services in the English church and a small chapel held, which you may also attend.

So this was now a short excursion into the history of a slightly different Amsterdam, not 10 steps from the vibrant and colorful shopping area - from the Kalverstraat!

I hope you, my visual tour fallen, even though I not the loud, colorful Amsterdam have shown - that the Red Light District, Chinatown, the Leidseplein, op de Dam, the Damraak ... lived. But there are quieter spots, churches, museums, large parks such as the Vondelpark, the Jordaan - now an artists' quarter with many fine shops, restaurants and cute just the place for 5 tables inside and two outside offers.
Next time I will show you the colorful Amsterdam with its canals and wooden bridges, and the loud spot - I promise, because one thing is certain - at least at Pentecost, we are there again

This at least appears a splash of color in this post, I have the Narcissus, which one can sense tiny on some images, taken again in size.
In Amsterdam namely, the Narcissus flower already, and between the lanes were apparently planted thousands of them. Everything blooms in yellow. It is still in a song: -. When spring comes, I will send you tulips from Amsterdam

tulips. not Narcissen

Best wishes and hopefully strength week of March you wish Christine
